DIY right now!
DIY is having a moment right now, ya’ll. TV shows, magazines, even WHOLE stores are hopping on the do-it-yourself trend and, if i’m being honest, I have to say that I could not be happier. Something about the can-do attitude that drives every DIY-er is deeply inspiring to me. When you give people the tools they need to make their design dreams come true, magic happens! Style, elegance, and beauty should never be tied to a huge price tag – this is a core belief over here at Instant Granite – so we have loved watching the ingenious ways people have made their home decor dreams come true!
Blogger Collaboration: Cris from Styleantropy
One of my favorite DIY projects we’ve been involved in is the amazing kitchen refresh by Cris over at Styleantropy. She and her husband’s Pittsburgh home had a kitchen with good bones, but there were dated elements throughout that they weren’t loving. It was dark, even with a huge window overlooking the sink, and they were looking to brighten the space.
However, they had been renovating their home for six months, and were maxed out (i.e. exhausted) with big-budget, long-timeline projects. They wanted to find an affordable DIY way to make the changes they envisioned in their home. This made Instant Granite the perfect solution for them. Cris ordered some free samples and fell in love with the White Italian Marble. She measured her kitchen, received the product, and got ready to work!
The DIY Project:
The first thing Cris undertook in this kitchen update was to paint the cabinets. It seems like this relatively simple and do-able project is one we often forget about. It is rarely necessary to completely rip out and replace your cabinets! The difference a fresh coat of paint can make should not be discounted. It is easy to DIY and typically a pretty affordable solution. In her space, Cris lightened up the cabinets by painting them white, but she held onto a bit of original charm by keeping the hardware. I love the this element of the project turned out.
Next, it was time to install the Instant Granite. They knew they wanted to update the faux wooden counters tops, and the White Marble Instant Granite was the perfect compliment to their newly lightened cabinets. First, Cris began by thoroughly cleaning her counters. She then measured her counters, cut the lengths of Instant Granite that she would need (remember – measure twice, cut once), and began placing the material. She and her husband opted to seal the edges with caulk, which is an awesome idea! It makes the product much more durable.
They swapped out the kitchen sink to complete their kitchen update and WOW!! What a transformation! The space feels infinitely brighter, roomier, and more stylish. We also love the LED lights she placed under her cabinets.
